Foto Story Friday #169— A ride in the country

A few weeks ago we went to Miles City and on the way home I wanted to take a little detour and show the kids this really cool bridge spanning the Yellowstone.

Kinsey Bridge

It’s a one lane bridge.  It’s very old and starting to show wear.  It is VERY loud as you drive over it…. sounds like a train.

one lane

So we took the kids across the bridge and some (Savanna) were scared and some (Scott and Em) remembered that we went across it once before.   There is a fishing access just across the bridge, but with the recent flooding it was inaccessible.  We turned around and heard a strange sound….. flat tire!  Out in the middle of nowhere!

fixing the flat

I took the twins for a walk up to the bridge while Troy and the big kids set to work on the tire.

roadside beauty

We saw pretty wild flowers.

A view down the side of the bridge.

How would you like to drive a fully loaded semi across this bridge?  Looks a little skinny!

help arrivesSO while we were walking in the heat, Troy was having a bit of trouble finding all the parts to the jack and we were blessed to have this rancher happen by.  He jumped out and rendered us help.

The road had recently been graded and it must have kicked up this railroad spike, which we then ran over!

off in a cloud of dust

After helping us out he went on about his business.  We later found that we had all the right pieces, we just didn’t know where to look for them!  Turns out that the handle for lowering the the spare tire is located ….. under the hood!

A shot thru the windshield of the bridge as we crossed back over it.  We headed back into Miles City to wash up and get drinks, then hit the freeway for home.

That bridge is cool! I love the shots that you took while walking to it. The angles are great.

You know how special these pictures are with that perspective? And love the sunflowers. Sounds like it was quite the adventure! Thanks for taking us along.

  3. I love bridges! And I actually really like that last shot that you took through the car window. 🙂

  4. A very interesting bridge and day out, although you would rather have done without the flat tyre!
